The Most Northern Youth Care Centres in the World
Starting in 2014, and in collaboration with the Government of Nunavut, Atlantic Youth began operating what is now all residential group care programs for youth in Nunavut. This includes 4D North Centre for Youth in Cambridge Bay and the Illagiittugut Centre for Youth in Iqaluit.
We pride oursilves on taking a fresh approach to the traditional group home model. Working supportively and collaboratively with youth, we uniquely blend the evidence based model of Circle of Courage with the traditional wisdom of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit. At our programs, youth are challenged to improve themselves through a wide variety of methods including outdoor education, experiential learning, therapeutic activities, nutritional programming as well as cultural programming. These challenges allow us to bring the Circle of Courage to life; fostering a sense of belonging, mastering essential skills, becoming independent and ultimately generous.
Our philosophy is holistic in nature, incorporating sound trauma informed, relational child and youth care practice and progressive youth engagement theories with effective clinical services, informed development strategies and cultural specific activities. Atlantic Youth has always been committed to improving the well bring and capacity of youth living in the north, and through 4D North and Illagiittugut we are providing a meaningful and innovative therapeutic option for youth in Nunavut for years to come.
